Hi everybody. This months “path Tuesday” focuses on .net and Silverlight. The patches will help close an exploit where remote execution could take place. The patches also focus on Internet Explorer all versions. The patch repairs a vulnerability where a hacker could gain access to your machine by enticing you to a special webpage. This patch is for all versions from IE 6 thru IE 9. Lower down on the priority list, there are patches for three remote code execution vulnerabilities in Active Accessibility, Media Center and Forefront UAG respectively, and a patch for a denial-of-service vulnerability in Host Integration Server. I recommend you apply all these patches to your system as soon as you receive them.

You should apply these patches even if you use a third party browser like Firefox or Maxthon.

Is Facebook going to start charging?

There has been a huge hoax going around Facebook for some time now telling people that the social network is going to start charging to be a member. This is totally false. Facebook will never charge for their services. If you want to verify this, log out of your account. You will now see the main sign in page. Where it says “sign up”, you will notice that it says that it is free and always will be under the sign up verbiage.

Facebook will never charge for access. With so many users, Facebook makes a bundle with advertising. Since it reaches so many people in any given day, Facebook can charge a premium price for it’s advertising and that is how it makes a profit. So in reality, tyhe more users that sign up, the better the payout they can get from the advertising partners.

If you receive this hoax on your wall, please do not share it as it is false and always will be false.

If you have already installed IE 9 and are having problems, uninstall the software and that will automatically revert you back to IE 8. Hi everybody. Every few weeks a new Facebook scan seems to materialize. This week it’s the “Find out who visits your profile,” scam, which we’ve all seen in the past.

The virus works first by gaining access to your account. This virus only needs for you to click on a link within your wall or a link in an e mail to be activated. To entice you into clicking, the scam offers something lots of people would love to know, but Facebook doesn’t allow: a list of people who’ve viewed your profile. You might receive an e-mail notification that tells you a friend has posted a link on your wall with this context:

“LOL !! Me cant believe that you can see who is viewing your profile! I can see the TOP 10 people and I am really OPENMOUTHED that my EX is still checking my Pix and my Profile. You can also see WH0 CHECKS YOUR PR0FILE here)”

You should never click on a link that has this type of verbage as it will activate the virus and send it to all your Facebook friends. Facebook always cautions people to be careful what you click on. Anytime you see something that does not look right, it is almost always best to avoid it. Once you click the link, there is no easy way to stop it. You would have to visit each of your friends walls to manually delete it from their posts and hope athat no one else clicked on the link in the meantime.

Remember that clicking links in e mails or posts that are infected can often cause serious damage to your computer and require the work of a computer repair professional to repair.

Hi everybody. If you use Facebook, and who doesn’t, there is a new scam you will have to tread through. Hackers are sending out rouge e mails that your password has been changed. The e mail will look very real and convincing. If you shoujld receive such an e mail, delete it immediatly. Please do not open it. If you do start to notice any unusual behavier after openning one of these e mails, run your virus removal software immediatly to check for any infections. The virus scan should find and remove the infection if one is found. If your solution does not work, other computer repair options may be necessary.

Remember, the best solution is to not get infected in the first place. Be very wary of any e mails that contain information or ask for information that is personal. Always delete these e mails immediatly and do not open the attachments.
